ACCA EPSM Deadline 2027: 20 Hours vs 60-Hour Module
ACCA 2027 Series
ACCA EPSM Deadline 2027: Finish the 20-Hour Module Before Mid-July
The Ethics and Professional Skills Module is being retired at the 2027 transition. Complete it in time and you bank full credit for its replacement. Miss the cut-off and the replacement takes roughly three times as long — at a price ACCA won't confirm until January 2027.
The short answer
Complete EPSM by mid-July 2027 (exact date to be confirmed by ACCA). It costs approximately £83 and takes around 20 hours. Anyone who finishes it before the transition receives full credit for the Ethical, Sustainable Leadership Essential Employability Module (ESL) — the new requirement for affiliate status in the redesigned qualification. Anyone who doesn't will need to complete the ESL module instead: approximately 60 hours, chargeable, with pricing confirmed only in January 2027. This is one piece of the wider redesign — see our complete guide to the ACCA 2027 syllabus changes for the full picture.
Your situation at a glance
| You are/have… | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| An affiliate who has already completed EPSM | Nothing changes. Your credit carries into the redesign — the only thing between you and membership is your PER. |
| An affiliate who has not completed EPSM | You keep affiliate status, but you'll need the ~60-hour ESL module before you can become a member. Finishing EPSM by mid-July 2027 is the cheaper, faster route. |
| A student sitting Strategic Professional exams, EPSM pending | Do EPSM now (£83, ~20 hours). It banks full ESL credit, and ACCA recommends completing it before any Strategic Professional exam anyway. |
| At Applied Skills, working towards the Advanced Diploma | EPSM is still required for the Advanced Diploma under current rules — and completing it pre-transition converts to ESL credit for later. |
What is the ACCA EPSM deadline?
Mid-July 2027. ACCA has not yet confirmed the exact date, so treat the June 2027 exam window as your practical planning horizon.
What replaces EPSM after 2027?
The Ethical, Sustainable Leadership Essential Employability Module (ESL), part of the redesigned Strategic Professional level. It is expected to take approximately 60 hours and will be chargeable, with pricing confirmed in January 2027.
Do I get credit for EPSM at transition?
Yes — full credit. Students and affiliates who have completed EPSM before the transition will not be required to complete the ESL module for affiliate status or membership.
What happens to EPSM in 2027
The Ethics and Professional Skills Module will not be part of the redesigned ACCA Qualification. From the transition, its role is taken over by the Ethical, Sustainable Leadership Essential Employability Module — one of the three new Essential Employability Modules, sitting at the Strategic Professional level. Under the redesigned rules, becoming an affiliate requires both the Strategic Professional exams and the ESL module.
ACCA's transition rule is simple and generous: complete EPSM before the cut-off and you receive full credit for ESL. There is no partial credit, no top-up, no conversion assessment. Done means done.
Here is the credit rule in one picture:
EPSM vs the ESL module: the numbers
On every dimension that is currently known, EPSM is the better deal:
| EPSM (available now) | Ethical, Sustainable Leadership (from 2027) | |
|---|---|---|
| Study time | ~20 hours | ~60 hours (expected) |
| Cost | ~£83, known today | Chargeable — price confirmed January 2027 |
| Availability | Until mid-July 2027 (exact date TBC) | Expected early 2027, exact dates TBC by ACCA |
| Role | Required for membership under current rules; also required for the Advanced Diploma award | Required for affiliate status under the redesigned Strategic Professional level |
| Transition credit | Converts to full ESL credit | — |
Already an affiliate? Two scenarios
Affiliate with EPSM completed: nothing changes for you at the transition. You will not be asked to complete the ESL module to retain affiliate status or to become a member. Your remaining requirement is the Practical Experience Requirement — 36 months of supervised experience plus Performance Objectives, unchanged in 2027.
Affiliate without EPSM: you keep your affiliate status at the transition — ACCA has confirmed this explicitly. But affiliate status is not membership. To become a member after the transition, you will need to complete the Ethical, Sustainable Leadership module. That is roughly 60 hours you can replace with roughly 20 by acting before mid-July 2027. If you completed your Strategic Professional exams years ago and drifted, this deadline is the single most consequential date in the entire redesign for you.
Still sitting Strategic Professional exams? Do EPSM first
ACCA's standing recommendation — repeated in its transition guidance — is to complete EPSM before attempting any Strategic Professional exam. There is a hard-nosed reason: every Strategic Professional exam carries 20 professional skills marks out of 100, and EPSM is where those skills are explicitly taught and practised. The module is not a compliance chore; it directly moves your exam marks.
If you are mid-way through Strategic Professional, the sequencing is clean: EPSM now, exams through the June 2027 session, and whatever remains unfinished carries into the redesigned level with credit. Our Strategic Professional transition guide maps every exam-credit scenario in detail, including the two-Options-versus-one-Option rule.
At Applied Skills? EPSM still matters to you
Under current rules, the Ethics and Professional Skills Module is required to be awarded the Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business — you can progress to Strategic Professional without it, but the diploma is withheld until it's done. Completing EPSM by mid-July 2027 therefore does double duty: it unlocks your diploma under the current requirements and simultaneously banks full ESL credit for the redesigned qualification. How your exams map across is covered in our Applied Skills transition guide.
The Eduyush take: this is the cheapest arbitrage in the whole 2027 transition. Twenty hours at a known £83 versus roughly sixty hours at a price nobody will know until January 2027. And the credit is only half the argument — EPSM trains exactly the professional skills that carry 20 marks in every Strategic Professional exam. We tell every student the same thing: EPSM before SBL, no exceptions.
Key dates
Your three realistic paths
Finish EPSM now
Twenty hours, £83, full ESL credit banked. Works whether you're at Applied Skills, mid-Strategic Professional, or an affiliate closing the loop. Also lifts your professional skills marks if exams are still ahead of you.
Affiliate, EPSM done
You're already covered. Your credit converts automatically at transition. Focus everything on completing your PER — it's the only requirement left between you and membership.
Wait and take ESL
Legitimate only if circumstances make the mid-July 2027 cut-off genuinely impossible. You'll take on ~60 hours at an unconfirmed price — plan and budget for it once ACCA publishes pricing in January 2027.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly happens if I don't finish EPSM before the transition?
EPSM is withdrawn, and to become an affiliate or member under the redesigned qualification you will need to complete the Ethical, Sustainable Leadership Essential Employability Module — expected to take approximately 60 hours, chargeable, with pricing confirmed in January 2027.
I'm already an ACCA affiliate but haven't done EPSM. Do I lose my status?
No. ACCA has confirmed affiliates without EPSM retain their affiliate status at transition. However, you will need to complete the ESL module as part of the requirements for ACCA membership. Finishing EPSM by mid-July 2027 removes that requirement entirely.
How much does the ESL module cost compared with EPSM?
EPSM costs approximately £83 today. The ESL module will be chargeable, but ACCA will only confirm its price in January 2027. On study time, EPSM is around 20 hours versus roughly 60 hours expected for ESL.
Should I complete EPSM before or after my Strategic Professional exams?
Before. ACCA explicitly recommends completing EPSM ahead of any Strategic Professional exam to maximise your chances of success — the professional skills it teaches carry 20 of the 100 marks in every Strategic Professional exam.
Does EPSM count towards the Strategic Professional Certificate?
No. The Strategic Professional Certificate is awarded on the exam elements alone — EPSM is not required for the certificate. EPSM (and its successor, ESL) sits on the affiliate and membership pathway instead.
Can I still buy or complete EPSM after July 2027?
No. Students who wish to complete EPSM must do so by mid-July 2027 (exact date to be confirmed by ACCA). After that, the Ethical, Sustainable Leadership module is the only route.
Will employers care whether I did EPSM or the ESL module?
No. Both routes lead to the same ACCA membership, and employers do not distinguish between members who qualified before or after the 2027 redesign.
