Finance Act 2025FA 2025 · PDF
Insight: Summarises the changes made by the UK Finance Act 2025 — the exact rates, allowances and thresholds you'll be examined on for June 2026 to June 2027. Read this first and make sure every figure you memorise comes from here, not an older year.
Higher skills
Insight: Exam questions increasingly span more than one syllabus area or more than one tax — the bridge towards ATX-UK. This article shows what those higher-skills requirements look like and how to approach them. Essential for the Section C 15-markers.
Syllabus area B · big Section C questionIncome tax & employment
One of the two guaranteed 15-mark Section C questions. Get the income tax computation pro forma automatic.
Adjustment of profitFoundation
Insight: How to turn accounting profit into taxable trading profit — add back disallowables, deduct allowable items and capital allowances. The backbone of both the income tax and corporation tax questions; learn the standard layout cold.
Benefits
Insight: Employment benefits feature regularly, and this article focuses on the ones actually examined. Know the company-car, fuel, accommodation and loan benefit rules — these are reliable, learnable marks.
Syllabus area CChargeable gains
Personal and corporate gains, the reliefs, and the share-matching rules.
Chargeable gains, part 1
Insight: The fundamentals of chargeable gains in either a personal or corporate context — computing the gain, the annual exempt amount and the rates. Start here before tackling reliefs.
Chargeable gains, part 2
Insight: Shares (the matching rules and the share pool), the main reliefs, and how companies are taxed on gains. The reliefs are where marks are won — know the conditions for each.
Syllabus area DInheritance tax
Scope, lifetime transfers and the death estate — a self-contained area you can master in full.
Inheritance tax, part 1
Insight: The scope of IHT, transfers of value, the rates and the exemptions. Get the exemptions order right (annual exemption, small gifts, marriage) — that's where careless marks are lost.
Inheritance tax, part 2
Insight: The harder lifetime-transfer rules, valuing the death estate, and the payment of IHT — with a worked exam-standard question and a self-test. Work the example to time rather than just reading it.
Syllabus area E · big Section C questionCorporation tax
The other guaranteed 15-mark Section C question. Groups are a perennial favourite.
GroupsHigh value
Insight: The group relationships that must exist for group relief and chargeable-gains group reliefs to apply — the thresholds matter (75% vs 51%). Work the examples; group questions reward knowing exactly which relief is available.
Syllabus area F · always examinedValue added tax (VAT)
TX-UK always carries a minimum of 10 marks on VAT — guaranteed marks if you've prepared.
Value added tax, part 1Guaranteed marks
Insight: Registration and deregistration, and output and input VAT. VAT is worth at least 10 marks every sitting, so this is some of the most reliable revision you can do.
Value added tax, part 2
Insight: VAT returns and invoices, penalties, overseas aspects and the special schemes (cash accounting, annual accounting, flat rate). Know which scheme suits which business — a common discussion element.

Motor carsEvery sitting
Insight: Cars have appeared in every TX-UK exam set to date, because acquiring, running or having the use of a car touches income tax, corporation tax, VAT and NIC. Master the car benefit, capital allowances and VAT-recovery rules together — they're tested across several questions.
