A UAE resignation letter should state that you are resigning, your job title, the notice period in your contract and your exact last working day. Under the federal Labour Law, notice after probation must be 30 to 90 days. During probation it is 14 days if you are leaving the UAE, or 1 month if you are joining another UAE employer. Resigning no longer reduces your gratuity once you complete 1 year of service.
This guide follows Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, which covers the mainland and most free zones. DIFC and ADGM have their own employment laws with different notice and end-of-service rules.

Notice period for resignation in the UAE
- Range: your contract sets a notice period between 30 and 90 days.
- Less than 30 days in the contract: that clause is invalid, and the 30-day minimum applies.
- Leaving early: if you do not serve the full notice, you must compensate your employer with your wage for the remaining days, unless they agree in writing to waive it.
- Working during notice: you must keep performing your duties until your last day.
If you need an earlier exit, ask for a written notice waiver. Without one, unserved notice is usually deducted from your final settlement.

Leaving during probation without following these rules can lead to a one-year ban on a new UAE work permit. You also get no gratuity if you leave before completing 1 year.

Final settlement and gratuity after resignation
Your final settlement must be paid within 14 days of your last working day. Check each item before you sign anything.

What happens to your visa after resignation?
- Your employer cancels your work permit and residence visa after your last working day.
- After cancellation, you get a grace period to leave the UAE or change status. It is commonly 30 to 90 days, depending on your visa type.
- If you join a new UAE employer, the new work permit can only be issued once the old one is cancelled.
- Ask for a copy of the cancellation documents, and check your status on the ICP or GDRFA app.
