The review course is only part of the total. Candidates also pay The IIA an application fee and a registration fee for each of the three exam parts, plus IIA India membership if they want the member rate — which is worth taking, because the member discount on both application and exam fees is substantial. Budget the course and IIA fees together rather than treating the course price as the total cost of certification.

Does a cheaper CIA course mean worse results?

Not necessarily. The IIA standardises the CIA syllabus, so core content is the same across every provider and the exam does not vary by review course. What changes is efficiency, interface, question difficulty and the route through the material. Price differences largely reflect brand, distribution and bundled extras — printed books, live classes, personal counselors — rather than different exam content.

The caveat worth stating plainly: cheaper courses generally strip out teaching, not testing. Surgent's lower price comes substantially from the absence of video instruction. If you learn primarily by watching a concept explained, a course without video lectures will feel thin however strong its question bank is.

What about budget alternatives like Hock and VoraPrep?

Two lower-cost providers appear frequently in 2026 CIA comparisons. Hock, at around US$949, is respected for concept-first teaching and instructor support.
